Social Narratives App

A development update from Tony

We've halted development

I was happy with the progress and the resulting social narratives that were being created, but ultimately AI caught up with our progress, and surpassed it.

The good news? You can now generate excellent, personalized social narratives directly with AI, for free. No app needed. No subscription. Just you and a well-crafted prompt.

Do it yourself with Gemini (free)

Google's Gemini can generate both the story text and illustrations in a single conversation. Here's how:

  1. Copy the prompt below
  2. Open Gemini (free Google account is all you need)
  3. Paste the prompt and edit the [bracketed fields] with your child's details
  4. Send it and review the result
Generate a social narrative as a self-contained HTML file for a child named [CHILD NAME], age [AGE], about [TOPIC/SITUATION — e.g., "going to the dentist for the first time"].

Key context: [Add anything relevant — fears, preferences, what helps them, etc.]

Requirements:
- Written in first person from the child's perspective
- Use mostly descriptive and reassuring sentences; use directive sentences ("I can try to...") sparingly
- 8-10 pages, one short paragraph per page (2-3 sentences)
- Positive, calm tone — use "can", "might", "sometimes" instead of "must" or "always"
- Generate an illustration for each page in a warm children's book style
- For image consistency, the child should resemble [VISUAL DESCRIPTION — e.g., "a 5-year-old boy with light brown hair and fair skin"]
- Clean, printable layout with large readable text and soft colors
- Include print-friendly CSS with page breaks between sections

Tip: You can also use Claude for excellent story text (then add images from any AI image generator), or ChatGPT for its strong image generation.
